Rail Geelong - Welcome

Rail Geelong - hopefully everything you ever wanted to know about the history of the railways of Geelong and District, and then some.

Currently detailed histories are in place for the Melbourne - Geelong, Maribyrnong River Line, Newport Power Station, Altona, Fyansford, Cunningham Pier, Queenscliff, and Geelong Racecourse railway lines. Histories of the locations on the lines themselves have also been completed in various levels of detail.

Recent Updates

June 12, 2008	The site hosting has just been moved, but everything seems fine.
April 14, 2008	At present there are two projects occurring on the Geelong line: construction of the Corio Independent Goods Line which is a dual gauge freight line from North Geelong up to North Shore, and the relaying of the wooden sleepered parts of the Geelong Line. April 1, 2008	Firstly, I have fixed the earlier issue. Secondly, the big announcement - the time has finally come - at least some of the updates I said I would do are now done. The Geelong line details and history is now completed from Newport all the way into the city, as are all the stations on the way. The Altona branch is now covered, including the Williamstown Racecourse station. Suburban freight lines have also been added - the Maribyrnong River, and Power Station and Oil Lines (and need to be expanded) Back at the Geelong end, the Geelong Racecourse branch has been added, including the sewer and farm tramways built on the alignment of the line after closure. The Fyansford line has been expanded, with more details on the narrow gauge Australian Portland Cement Railway and the Cement Works themselves. The backend code has been altered so the URLs to everything are much cleaner http://www.railgeelong.com/lineguide/geelong/diagram instead of http://www.railgeelong.com/lineguide.php?line=geelong§ion=diagram - but the old ones still work. You can now look up the recently updated locations, and browse the recently uploaded photos. I think that is it!
April 1, 2008	At the present time I am having some trouble with the upgrade I have carried out: my home server didn't have any trouble with the .htaccess file I wrote, but this server it throwing huge tantrums. As a result when you click any links you get a 404 error as they are not getting translated to 'real' pages properly. Uggg!!!!

Melbourne to Geelong has now been covered, as well as the various branches. Geelong to Ballarat is currently in the works, with the Gheringhap to Maroona and Moriac to Wensleydale lines also partly researched.
