In the late 1970s a 2.1km deviation of the Princes Highway was constructed around the town of Cudgee. Running to the south of the existing highway, new road overpass was built over the railway between Pamure and Cudgee, with the old crossing of the railway downgraded to local traffic, on what was now called Fearnleys Road.
