Opened to serve the Laker family's shell grit plant, up to 1000 tons of grit was despatched every week. A concrete platform and elevated loading bins were provided to assist in handling the traffic.
The destination of the shell grit was the Australian Glass Co. plant at Spotswood, forming the main traffic on the line until the plant changed suppliers in 1973.
