Interlocked gates were first provided at Latrobe Terrace in 1884, controlled from Geelong A signal box.

In 1982 the level crossing at Latrobe Terrace was replaced by a multi lane flyover, as part of a project to provide a road bypass for Geelong's city centre.

This project rerouted the Princes Highway along a widened Latrobe Terrace between Mercer Street and the Barwon River, then over a new Barwon River bridge, and around a bypass of Belmont along Settlement Road.
