Yarraville A Signal Box

Signal Box
Line: Geelong
Opened: Tuesday, 22 October 1912
Closed: Sunday, 20 April 1969

Yarraville A box was opened in conjunction with the provision of access to the Yarraville goods yard from the Melbourne end. It was located at the up end of the Somerville Road level crossing.

It was initially provided with a 21 lever frame, with 8 spare, but with the provision of three position power signalling the frame was shorted to 11 levers.

In 1969 the up end connection to the goods yard was removed, and the signal box closed. The gates were replaced with boom barriers, being converted to automatic operation a few months later, and replaced by an overbridge in 1970.
