In 2016 the Victoria Government announced that the Aviation Road level crossing would be removed.
Early site investigations commenced in September 2016, with a road over rail design selected in March 2018. Work started in September 2018, with the new bridge opening to road traffic in September 2019.
The pedestrian crossing is still in service to provide access to Aircraft Station, with a replacement pedestrian underpass to be completed at a later date.
