Rail Geelong

The road overbridge at Forsyth Road was opened in 1989 in conjunction with the new interchange with the Princes Freeway that runs parallel. It provided another access point for people from the eastern side of Hoppers Crossing to access the freeway.

The bridge was built over the then double track railway, the Western Standard Gauge line was also constructed underneath in 1995. On the eastern side clearance is constrained, if a fourth track was built it would be a tight fit.

In 2019 work on a second road bridge over the railway commenced, as part of the Western Roads Upgrade project developed by Major Road Projects Victoria. The works will add an extra traffic lane in each direction, and straighten Forsyth Road and Old Geelong Road to connect to Ashcroft Avenue at a new signalised intersection.
