The Roy Street pedestrian subway runs for 50 metres between the two halves of Roy Street severed by the railway. The west entry is a ramp beside the St John's Church, and the east entry is an opening in an embankment near Mercer Street. The tunnel was usually closed at night time for security reasons, but is now closed permanently. The subway runs under both the main lines at Geelong station, as well as the carriage yard and the former goods yards. The tunnel is of brick construction, and has a kink in the middle.
